Britney Spears’s attorney is blasting the pop star’s father after a new investigative report alleged that Jamie Spears secretly recorded his daughter in the privacy of her own home.
According to The New York Times , Jamie required his daughter’s personal security (whom he hired) to record her every move, including private interactions in her bedroom, which ranged from conversations with her two sons and her boyfriend to those with her former lawyer, Samuel Ingham. The state of California, where Britney and her family reside, is a two-party consent state, meaning that Britney might have had to agree to and start to become aware of the fact she had been recorded.
Jamie’s legal team responded in a statement to the Times , stating, “All of his actions were well within the parameters of the authority conferred upon him by the court. His actions were done with the data and consent of Britney, her court-appointed attorney, and/or the court. Jamie’s record as conservator—and the court’s approval of his actions—speak for themselves. ”
Per Page Six , Britney’s current lawyer, Mathew Rosengart, called the allegations “horrifying and unconscionable invasions of his adult daughter’s privacy. ”
“Unauthorized recording or monitoring of Britney’s private communications—especially attorney-client communications, which are a sacrosanct part of the legal system—represent an unconscionable and disgraceful violation of her privacy rights and a striking example of the deprivation of her civil liberties, ” Rosengart said in a statement to Page Six . “Placing a listening device in Britney’s bedroom could be particularly horrifying and corroborates so much of her compelling, poignant testimony. Mr. Spears has crossed unfathomable lines. ”
Rosengart also said in his court filing that he and Britney are requesting that Jamie immediately be removed from overseeing the conservatorship, no later than September 29, the same day as the star’s next court date.
