Sam Asghari Says Britney Spears Docs Left a “Bad After Taste” Ahead of Netflix Premiere

Britney Spears’ fiancé Sam Asghari has shared his thoughts on the recent documentaries.

The model and actor posted an Instagram story with a lengthy caption speaking on the recent wave of documentaries detailing Spears’ ongoing conservatorship case, ahead of the premiere of Netflix’s Britney vs Spears. He also addressed the upcoming Erin Lee Carr-directed doc, which premieres Tuesday, the day before Spears’ next highly anticipated court appearance.

After joking, “Apparently my opinion has increased in value over the past few days,” Asghari wrote, “Past docs left bad after taste. I’m hopeful this one will be respectful.”

Though the model did not specify which past documentaries his comments were directed toward, he did mention the networks CNN and the BBC. He did not mention FX or the New York Times, which presented Framing Britney Spears and the follow-up Controlling Britney Spears.

“I don’t blame CNN, BBC, or NETFLIX (which got me thru lockdowns) for airing them because as an actor i tell other people’s stories too. I question producers who made them ‘just to shed light’ without input or approval from subject. Any credit for light being shed should go to #freebritney,” he wrote.

Spears herself expressed her thoughts on Framing Britney Spears last March, sharing that she felt “fragile” under the gaze of the public eye and “embarrassed” by how the documentary portrayed her life.

“As the world keeps on turning and life goes on we still remain so fragile and sensitive as people !!! I didn’t watch the documentary but from what I did see of it I was embarrassed by the light they put me in … I cried for two weeks and well …. I still cry sometimes !!!! I do what I can in my own spirituality with myself to try and keep my own joy … love … and happiness ✨🙏🏼 ☀ !!!! Every day dancing brings me joy !!! I’m not here to be perfect … perfect is boring … I’m here to pass on kindness 💋💋💋 !!!!”

The pop star made her return to Instagram this week after a short pause, during which she celebrated her engagement. She posted some snapshots from a weekend getaway to Palm Springs on Monday, sharing her excitement and writing ” I still can’t believe it !!!!”
