Ariana Grande just landed her biggest acting role yet.
The pop star is set to star alongside Tony, Grammy, and Emmy winner Cynthia Erivo in Universal’s upcoming live-action adaption of the mega-hit musical Wicked, according to Variety. The film will be directed by Jon M. Chu (In the Heights, Crazy Rich Asians), who has been attached to the project since February. Grande will star as Glinda, the Good Witch, and Erivo as Elphaba, the Wicked Witch of the West, taking over the roles made famous by the Broadway musical’s original stars, Idina Menzel and Kristin Chenoweth. The beloved musical is a prequel to The Wizard of Oz, telling the story of the world of Oz before Dorothy’s arrival.
Both Grande and Erivo shared the casting news on social media, congratulating each other and revealing their first reactions to hearing that they had indeed received the film’s starring parts.
