Goddag, Denmark! Duchess Kate has arrived in Copenhagen for a two-day fact-finding visit as part of her focus on childhood development.

The Duchess of Cambridge—who wore a favorite red bouclé Zara blazer first worn in 2020 and a pair of earrings by Danish jeweler Maria Black—arrived at Denmark’s Copenhagen Airport alongside aides from The Royal Foundation and was greeted by the British ambassador to Denmark, Emma Hopkins.

Kate’s visit is the first time the work of her Centre for Early Childhood, which she launched last year, has been brought to the global stage and will be a chance to learn from Denmark’s world-leading approach and investment in the early years.

With just one night in the country and no time to waste, the duchess headed straight to the capital for her first engagement: visiting the Copenhagen Infant Mental Health Project at the University of Copenhagen.

Always dressed for the occasion, she switched the Smythson tote she flew in with for a small Aspinal midi bag.

Kate got to see the LEGO Foundation’s PlayLab space, which has been built for students to study the importance of play in children’s learning. Despite wearing heels, the duchess was more than game when offered a chance to have a go on a tall, winding slide in the play area. “In the spirit of where I am, I had to do it!” she laughed after sliding down.

Kate also stopped by the city’s Children’s Museum to speak with health visitors trained in Denmark’s Understanding Your Baby project, which helps them have “more helpful and sensitive conversations with parents.”

Prior to her arrival, a spokesperson at Kensington Palace shared further details about her trip, explaining that the duchess will spend time learning about how Denmark has created “an enabling culture for early childhood development, specifically how it has promoted infant mental well-being alongside physical health and how it harnesses the power of nature, relationships, and playful learning in the first five years of life.”

During her visit, the mom of three will meet with a wide range of people, including children and families, leading researchers, representatives from academia, and those working in the early education sector.

There will also be moments set aside to acknowledge the joint jubilees taking place in the United Kingdom and Denmark—70 years on the throne for Queen Elizabeth and a 50-year reign for Queen Margrethe.

On Wednesday, Kate will join Princess Mary of Denmark to visit a project supported by the Mary Foundation, which focuses on protecting vulnerable women and children from domestic violence.
